TECNO has brought the brand new Camon 17 series to the Ugandan market as the successors to the Camon 16 series throne. There are three new models: the Camon 17, Camon 17 P, and Camon 17 Pro. As you may imagine, each of the three models has something unique about it, with the camera being a focal point. The TECNO Camon 17 Pro sits right on the throne of these features.
Some of the key highlights of the Camon 17 Pro include the 64MP Quad rear camera, 48MP selfie camera, the Helio G95 CPU, and a 6.8″ Dot-in, 90Hz FHD+ display. We have the TECNO Camon 17 Pro with us, and here are the first impressions.
TECNO Camon 17 Pro price
The Camon 17 Pro is priced starting at UGX 1,090,000 for the very first 8GB RAM, 256GB storage configuration. TECNO offers the smartphone in two colours, California dream silver and Malibu blue. The piece we are reviewing is in the latter. Let’s see what is impressive about the new gadget.
Impression 1: Beauty in design
The very first impression you get is that the Camon 17 Pro is slim, portable, and beautiful! With it, you get a big 6.8-inch IPS LCD display – similar to what the 16 Pro offered – though this time with a 90Hz refresh rate. This display is indeed fluid and worth the wait.
TECNO has opted for an artistic backside of the device. Actually, if you are a fashionista, this suits you quite perfectly. The back of the Camon 17 Pro is made of beautiful plastic, which curves to meet the frame. This curvature makes it easy to hold the phone comfortably.
The power and volume buttons are easily traceable on the right. The power button also has a fingerprint sensor on it, in case you want to boost the phone’s security. The left houses the SIM tray which also has a memory card slot to expand on the storage. At the bottom, you’ll find a USB Type-C port, primary microphone, earphone jack, and a speaker.
Impression 2: The clearest (selfie) camera
The Camon series is always about the camera. And the 17 Pro is not denying you this right! The module on the back is the highlight of the Camon 17 Pro. You get four sensors to play with and perfect your photography, as we are going to detail in the next minute.
The primary camera is the 64 MP wide sensor, accompanied by an ultrawide 8 MP sensor, a 2 MP depth camera, and a fourth 2 MP to do the monochrome magic. The selfie camera is a 48 MP that shoots its focus with precision, giving you the clearest image possible. You’ve got to love it!
Impression 3: Performance like-no-other
TECNO has packed in a 5,000mAh battery in the phone, something that you’d only wish for in a camera smartphone. The Camon 17 Pro supports 25W fast charging and you get an effective USB Type-C charger to the effect. A little more time with the device will determine just how much time it takes to fully charge, plus for how long you have to wait till the next recharge.
We get to experience the octa-core Mediatek Helio G95 on the Camon 17 Pro and are looking forward to testing it. TECNO offers the Camon 17 Pro in the unique 8GB/256GB configuration only, a reason to enjoy storage at its most without complaints.
TECNO ships the Camon 17 Pro with its latest HiOS 7.6 on top of Android 11. We found quite some amount of bloatware preinstalled along with a few apps from the manufacturer. You can uninstall these apps if you don’t intend to use them.
