MTN Uganda appointed Christopher Ssali as the general manager (GM) for Mobile Financial Services in an acting role.
The position fell vacant after the former occupant Elsa Muzzolini was deported from Uganda in January of this year on accusations that she had been involved in subversive activities.
The Italian national’s deportation followed two other senior officials that had been thrown out of the country over similar reasons. It was the company’s chief executive officer Wim Vanhellepute that was sent packing last.
The appointment of Ssali is among a few temporary decisions the telecom giant made as it carries on with plans to replace the deported executives. Their positions were recently advertised in newspapers.
Who is Christopher Ssali?
Before taking up this role, Ssali was the senior manager MTN Mobile Money Financial Services products, a position he was appointed to in 2017.
At the telecommunications giant where he has spent around a decade, Christopher Ssali has also served as the manager for Value Added Services (VAS) and Mobile Money Products.
Before joining MTN Uganda, he worked with Uganda Telecom as a VAS coordinator. Meanwhile, today he officiated the launch of MoMoPay at Shoprite.
