Good afternoon. This is an update of the events that will be taking place in Kampala this week.
This has started today. It is taking place at the Innovation Village in Ntinda. It will run for 5 days under the theme “Financing Uganda’s Innovation Ecosystem”.
Major speakers will include Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Trade and Industries and Cooperatives and Jussi Hinkkanen, CEO Fuzu among others.
According to the official website, the event seeks to “converge and build initial awareness for the multiple ecosystem partners on opportunities to finance the ecosystem through collaboration.”

Technopreneurs Event
This will take place at Outbox and it is being organized by Jumia and SafeBoda. The event is aimed at exploring the various ways in which tech can be of use to one’s life and career. It will also be a platform for networking.
The event will promote networking between tech professionals from Creatures animation studios Jumia and Safeboda and young people where knowledge and experience will be shared to give the youth an insight and exposure about tech careers.
The event will take place from 6pm to 9pm.

Happy Hour at Kampala Innovation Week
The first day of the KIW will be concluded with a networking event hosted by our partners Unreasonable East Africa. Attendees will run rub shoulders with entrepreneurs, innovators, and partners and also have a snack at the end.
Happy hour will take place from 5:00-8:00 pm at Innovation Village and entrance is free.
Day 2 – Kampala Innovation Week
Day 2 of the KIW will run under the Theme; Investment Readiness for Start-ups, Entrepreneurs, and SMEs.
Ms. Beth Foster from Engineers Without Borders Canada will lead a discussion to give insights from investors and Venture Capitals.
Day 3 – Kampala Innovation Week
Day 3 of KIW will focus on “Enterprise Acceleration: Lessons and opportunities from Uganda”
On this day, accelerators, companies/organizations on all things Acceleration will put to use research from a recent study by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs – ANDE.
Day 4 – Kampala Innovation Week
Fuzu, a leading talent management start-up in East Africa together with nd SafeBoda, the fastest growing start-up in Uganda will lead the discussion on how startups can bring in and retain top talent which contributes to their growth.

Ye! Community Uganda Summit 2018
This is being Ye! Community Uganda. The Ye! Community Uganda Summit will be held on the 23rd – 24th August 2018 running under the theme ‘Aspiration to Action.’
The Summit will host panel discussions, workshops, an awards ceremony, and networking opportunities. The Ye! Summit is organized in collaboration with UN Women Uganda, USSIA, UAA, the Kafeero Foundation, Enterprise Uganda and Pelere Group Ltd. One of the attendees will walk away with the Ye! Community Uganda Young Entrepreneur 2018 Award.

SeedStars Tour
The seed starters tour is happening in Kampala this week. Best startups in the ecosystem will pitch to stand a chance to get $1M in equity investments. Organised by Kampala Word Press, the event is a Question & Answer Panel Session on Security, Blogging and Theme Development.
It will be at Hive Collab located at 4th-floor Kanjokya House, Plot 90 Kanjokya Street. The event starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 11:00 PM. It will be on Saturday.
Sessions will run on question and answer format to respond to queries on security, blogging, theme development and Search engine Optimization.
Away from Kampala, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is set to host a global hackathon, in which participants will be required to develop innovations that can help in improving community health services to attain universal health coverage.
Dubbed CAMTech Uganda Medtech Hackathon, the global competition is held annually and this will be the sixth time, the first time being in 2013.
