Tunga, a company that connects software engineers to job opportunities, is expanding to Cario in Egypt, making it the third destination in Africa after Uganda and Nigeria.
Founded in 2015 by Butterfly Works, a not-for-profit design studio and Ernesto Spruyt, a social entrepreneur, Tunga currently has more than 200 developers, according to Bart Leijssenaar, the company chief marketing officer.
A recent video posted by Tunga shows Leijssenaar in Cairo, where he says, alongside colleagues, they are scouting for developers.
He says they are expanding to Egypt because, over the years, they’ve realized that recruiting more people from diverse communities increases productivity.
“We are expanding to Egypt because we think it is very important to have a diverse community. Also, we want to bring people together from different backgrounds,” he says in the video.
According to Leijssenaar, they already have projects that been worked on by developers from Lagos, Kampala and Cairo, and the results were impressive.

He also says that there are a lot of highly skilled developers in Egypt, basing on those they’ve talked to.
Tunga has offices in Kampala and it is based at Design Hub, where they started from.
The company connects developers to small and big businesses. They are supported by seven organizations, according to the company website, and they include among others Oxfam, Triodos Bank, Butterfly Works, and The Doen Foundation.
