Stakeholders to discuss electronic manufacturing in Uganda

Electronics manufacturing in Uganda

Different stakeholders in the manufacturing sector will meet on Thursday to deliberate on how to formulate a policy that will guide Uganda’s electronics manufacturing program.

“The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology (ICT) and National Guidance (NG) has embarked on initiatives to create an industry of assembly and manufacturing of electronic to create jobs, propagate the use of electronics in Uganda and supervise the mastering of that technology,” reads an invitation letter sent to multiple stakeholders which SautiTech has seen.

Signed by Simon Mayende on behalf of the ICT and NG Ministry Permanent Secretary, the letter also indicates that the purpose of the meeting is to seek input from stakeholders to refine the existing policy document.

“The Ministry of ICT and NG has consequently developed a Draft policy to guide electronics assembly and manufacturing in Uganda. We require input from stakeholders to further refine the policy document,” says the letter.

The letter indicates that the workshop to discuss the draft Electronics Manufacturing Policy will take place on Thursday, July 5 at 8:30am at Statistics House, Kampala.

It should be recalled that in 2017 the ICT ministry received funding for acquiring a consultancy service to conduct a feasibility study for Electronics Manufacturing under the National ICT Initiatives Support Program (NIISP).
