Tips on how to speed up your slow smartphone

Prevent malware from installing on Android

Most smartphone users notice their smartphone speeds reduce over time. The speed your device had when you started using it tends to reduce when not properly maintained. This is because of the increasing number of applications and files getting stored as time goes by.

If your Android device has reached this point of a noticeable delay, below we look at how you can fix that.

Uninstall unused apps

All Android devices come with a number of pre-installed apps that are pre-installed by the manufacturers. When the device is acquired by a user, more apps are added which altogether take up more space and reduce the device speed. To increase speed, all unused apps need to be uninstalled. To uninstall such apps on your Android phone, visit Settings, click on apps and find the app you wish to uninstall and tap uninstall.

Close unused apps

To increase speed, the amount of RAM available for use should always be sufficiently large. Each time an app is opened and left running i.e. during multitasking, all apps share the RAM available leading to slowing down of the device. Unused apps that are running should always be closed to ensure a sufficient amount of RAM is available.

Clean up the Home Screen

Your device’s Home Screen should always be kept clean and simple to avoid overloading it. When the screen is overloaded, a lot will be happening which will, in turn, reduce your device speed. Avoid using many widgets with big live wallpapers.

Update your device software

Most, if not all, software updates are made to improve performance. Sometimes updates contain bug fixes and performance enhancements that when downloaded improve your device speed. Always ensure you download the updates whenever the notification appears.

Use Lite versions

Lite versions of apps are always created with fewer features than the original versions which end up consuming less RAM and storage space.

Delete cached data

Cached data is kept to ensure apps load more quickly whenever the app is launched. However, over time this data increases and starts occupying a lot of space and reducing speed. Some apps like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram that store large amounts of images and other files accumulate large sizes of cached data overtime and should always have their cached data cleared more frequently.

In order to increase your device’s speed, you need to ensure your device has a sufficient amount of space. Always ensure both your RAM and storage are sufficiently large.
