TECNO Phantom 9 unboxed: Our first impressions in pictures

TECNO Phantom 9

We have unboxed TECNO’s flagship device, TECNO Phantom 9, and we love it.

First off, it is retailing at Shs919,000.

The packaging is awesome. The gracious grey box it comes in strikes you with a premium feel.

The box is multilayered, with each layer holding different components. The phone has its own compartment.

On the device, you’ll find a prefixed decent screen protector. And for rear protection, a black rubber jacket is offered.

The skin of the jacket has been designed to provide a great grip.

If you don’t like backend jackets, the Lapland Aurora cover made of polycarbonate material should impress you.TECNO Phantom 9

When it comes to accessories, there is a little bit of disappointment, at least for me.

You’ll use a micro USB for charging yet phones like Redmi Note 7, which are in the same price range use USB Type C.

For headsets, the ending is not attractive since it is flat, meaning it can’t fit properly in ears for activities like jogging.

Launching the device

At 6.4 inches, the screen size can facilitate anything you’d want to do with a phone. The notch is a water drop type.

The display is AMOLED with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This makes the display warmer and more saturated.

TECNO Phantom 9 comes with a beautifully curved corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the front. Higher-end smartphones like Samsung S10 have Glass 6.

Cameras

On the front, you’ll use a 32MP camera with dual flash and AI scene recognition capabilities.

At the back, there are three AI cameras; the first is a 16MP main shooter, the second is an 8MP camera for depth sensing and lastly, there is a 2MP ultrawide lens with quad flash.

More on hardware

The SIM tray is on the left side of the phone and it can house two dual 4G/LTE nano sims and an SD card. The power and volume buttons are on the right side.

At the bottom is where your 3.5mm headphone jack is located. This part also holds the microphone, a micro USB port, and a speaker.

More on software

One of Phantom 9’s unique features is its light-sensitive in-screen fingerprint sensor. The only challenge is that, unlike the back-placed fingerprint, this requires two steps for you to unlock a phone.

That aside, the device comes with 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM which will be powered by TECNO’s HiOS 5.0 that’s slapped on Android 9 Pie.

It has 2.3GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 processor running on a 3,500mAh battery.

The Tecno Phantom 9 measures 158.52 x 75.30 x 7.85mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 164.00 grams.
