Google is enhancing its Docs, Sheets, and Slides on Android with Dark theme support. The company says the dark theme will ‘intelligently adjust the product interface and user-generated content in ways that can make it more usable in low-light environments and save battery life’.
Basically, the company wants you to change your theme setting to make it easier for you to view documents, presentations, and spreadsheets on your mobile device. You can use the dark theme setting to help save battery life. Interestingly, any other collaborators can’t see the theme you choose.
If your Android phone system is set to use a dark theme, the settings for Docs, Sheets, and Slides will adjust automatically. You can also turn dark mode on or off for Docs, Sheets, or Slides independently. If you do this, each app will always be in the selected theme regardless of the Android system settings.
How to set Dark Theme for Google Docs on Android
To enable the dark theme independently in the Docs, Sheets, or Slides apps, go to Menu, then to Settings. Select Theme, and then choose Dark in each app. When using Dark theme, you can preview your current document or sheet in the Light theme by going to More, then select View in light theme.
