At first sight, it dawns on you that the New Holland TT490 tractor model was tailor-made for the sugarcane out growers in the eastern region.
Yet, Moses Mugeni, the sales executive at Cooper Motors, hastily expounds that the machine can work on extensive agricultural farms.
“We brought three brands of tractors with the latest technology to eastern farmers after a thorough research of what they need to improve in their sugar cane production,” he reveals.
“The newest New Holland tractor TT490 has been tailor-made for the outgrowers in the Eastern region terrain and comes at a low price. Plus, it accommodates other utilities used for irrigation, planting, slashing and spraying pesticides and applying fertilizers making it a must-have all-in-one machine,” he added.
That is not all; it can accommodate superior transportation and other accessories that fit the farmer’s needs, according to Mugeni.
Cost and fuel effective
Mugeni divulges that the tractor outputs more than 18 acres a day and works day and night. “Because it can be bought on a community basis, the tractor was fitted with lights that enable it to plough 24/7,” he adds.
“It is very friendly and economical in that it consumes 5.5m litres per acre,” he says.

It comes at $33000 (shs133m) with a provision of discounts and a payment plan that farmers can work on through several commercial banks such as Post Bank, Centenary Bank and Stanbic Bank.
Maintenance
Cooper Motors, the company in charge of the tractors merchandising, has a standby technician that goes to the field to visit every tractor unit whilst the spare parts can be got from their regional centres in Nakawa, Mbale, Gulu and Mbarara.
“Anyone who has used tractors before knows it is the easiest to operate and maintain. We give a one year warranty for all our equipment that come along the tractor unit like the 18 disc harrow, cereal planter, mechanical planter with fertiliser unit and a boom sprayer,” Mugeni adds.
