On reading the headline, you must have asked yourself what scale we used to determine the cheapest smartphones in Uganda.
Well, in its recent report, the online retailer Jumia Uganda said that the average price for a smartphone in Uganda was Shs303,104 in 2018.
Since most Ugandans buy smartphones in that range, we’re going to include smartphones that cost below Shs400,000.
Transsion-made itel features prominently on the list. It actually has one phone in the Uganda market that costs above Sh400,000: itel S32 LTE and it costs a little over or below Shs500,000 depending on where you buy it from.
Brands like iPhone and Nokia don’t feature on the list. Most of their phones are above Shs1 million.
It’s only Samsung and Huawei that feature one phone each on the list of cheapest smartphones in Uganda. Their phones are also really expensive for the average Ugandan smartphone user.
For brands that feature many models, we shall present them in table format. And those that feature only one, we shall list at the end of the article.
