Seedstars sets Kampala tour date, apply to win Shs1.9bn

Seedstars Kampala

Seedstars World Competition, an innovation showdown targeting emerging markets, has announced dates for the 2019 tours. In Kampala, innovators will face off at a yet to be announced venue on October 18.

In 2018, the competition was hosted by Outbox Hub and, AgroSupply, founded by Joseph Ogwal, emerged winner to represent Uganda at the Seedstars Global Competition in Switzerland where the winner bagged US$500,000 (about Shs1.9bn) in equity investment.

Seedstars traverses more than 100 cities across the globe, pitting innovations against each other. The tours culminate into the final showdown among regional winners.

Qualifications and how to apply

For a startup to apply, it should be 2 years old and have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Only 8 startups will qualify for the pitching competition.

Even if you don’t win, according to SeedStars, you’ll “receive 1 month for free of [Seedstars] Investment Readiness Program, which provides access to data-driven series of training, mentoring sessions from experts and investors as well as curated insights.”

It should be recalled that early this year Seedstars World announced that it will invest US$100 million in the African startup ecosystem in the coming years. It is working with Paris-based First Growth Ventures to achieve this.

Aside from AgroSupply, other Uganda startups that have been supported by Seedstars include Numida (2018), Akiba (2017), and Intership UG (2016).

You’ve up to Oct. 4 to apply. Follow this link.
