Bodawerk’s electric-powered tractor stuns crowds at Jinja agricultural show

An electric-powered tractor developed by Ugandan engineering startup Bodawerk International Ltd is one of the highlights of the 27th edition of the National Agricultural Show held this past week at Jinja Show Grounds in Jinja Town.

Dubbed E-trak (Electric Traktor), the vehicle runs on battery power to support ploughing, secondary tillage, mobile threshing, mobile milling, pumping water, grain collection, inputs distribution, etc.

The company says the vehicle will increase productivity while enriching modern farming in Uganda.

At the highly-attended exhibition, the award-winning company also showcased its cutting-edge mobility solutions like its electric motorcycle created from converting a gas engine to an electric one and E-Wheely, an electric wheelchair, being developed to revolutionize mobility for PWDs.

The event, which was attended by farmers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and governmental officials, was officially opened by Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

He represented President Yoweri Museveni.

The Prime Minister awarded best model farmers in the country. He encouraged farmers to utilize all the resources available to fight hunger and grow financially.

The National Agricultural Show saw innovators display innovations geared towards advancing farming practices in Uganda.

Themed ‘Agricultural technologies and Innovations for farmer-led Agro Industrialization’, the event run from July 12-21.

The show presents a platform for displaying and identifying innovations made by local and foreign companies through improved technologies for better production, marketing, and poverty eradication. This year the event focused on how to engage technologies in agricultural production to embrace value addition and industrialization.

At the National Agricultural Show, farmers are also given an opportunity to learn current technologies of production in the agricultural value chain, identify the potential market for products and spearhead active participation by the private and public sectors.

Its Areas Of Interest include; Best Agro Technology & Innovations Standards, Most popular Education institutions (Schools, Polytechnics, Special Schools, Colleges and Universities,  Most popular financial services i.e Banks, Saccos, Insurance, MFIs, NSSF, etc, Research Institutions (NARO, Universities, ILRI, Seed companies, Feeds companies, Agrochemical companies, Government ministries/departments/programmes.
