Kampala Capital City Authority has finally revealed the amount of money it will spend on the winners in the innovation competition it is organizing. Applications for the competition are already ongoing and the project focuses on what the Authority has termed as “citizen reporting”. KCCA wants participants, undergraduate and post-graduate students, to develop a technology that will be used by citizens in reporting their problems.
According to information on the KCCA website, 3 categories of winners will be recognized, with the first bagging Shs10 million, the second (Shs6.65 million) and the third (Shs3.35 million). This puts the whole amount at Shs20 million.
KCCA said it will announce the winners on its official social media accounts and notifications will also be sent via email and phone calls to the participants. The award ceremony will be at KCCA headquarters.
It is only 10 projects that will face off for the final battle, according to KCCA.

To filter the applications, the judges will among others consider relevancy to the theme, creativity and originality and workability of the solution to Kampala.
KCCA says it started the initiative to among other things recognize Ugandan talent and promote the campaign of Buy Uganda Build Uganda, address the unemployment challenge by encouraging the growth of entrepreneurship skills and address citizen collaboration by presenting challenges before citizens and having them create solutions.
