Parody social media accounts have been created in the name of Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu is the commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) unit called Land Forces.
According to Brig. Richard Karemire, a spokesman for the UPDF, Gen. Peter Elwelu doesn’t own any account on social media.
“THIS IS TO INFORM ALL AND SUNDRY THAT THERE IS NO FACEBOOK OR TWITTER ACCOUNT OPERATED BY LT GEN PETER ELWELU. ANY INFORMATION ORIGINATING FROM THESE ACCOUNTS IS FAKE AND SHOULD BE IGNORED,” Brig. Karemire wrote on Twitter.
He says law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the matter.
“LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES HAVE MEANWHILE TAKEN INTEREST IN THE MATTER,” he added.

The impersonation of Lt. Gen Peter Elwelu comes after his colleagues, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde ((retd) and Maj. Gen. Leopold Kyanda also recently became victims of social media parodies.
The same has happened to Edwin Karugire, the husband of Natasha Museveni, daughter to President Yoweri K. Museveni.
On Facebook, there are two accounts – one is named Peter Elwelu (and it has no picture) while the other is named Elwelu Peter (and it has his picture).
However, we couldn’t trace Twitter accounts in the General’s name.
