IGTV: How it is set to change marketing, video consumption

IGTV or Instagram television is one of the game-changing products that the Facebook-owned social networking site has rolled out this year.

Now regarded as the fastest growing social media platform, Instagram has been unveiling multiple products targeting its competitors.

IGTV, rolled out in June of this year, is seen as a direct competitor to YouTube, the second most visited website in the world.

After its roll-out, many analysts have said that IGTV is positioned to change the way people devour television while creating an incredible platform for digital marketers.

In his article in Forbes, Nick Brucker, founder, and CEO at Sparq Designs, a Pittsburgh-based, full-service digital marketing agency, notes that by rolling out IGTV, Instagram is aiming at capturing another audience it was yet to tap into.

One notable thing that IGTV has changed is the way videos appear on the platform.

Other platforms like Facebook and YouTube have been producing landscape videos, but with IGTV, the videos are vertical, giving the viewer a great experience.

Unlike the aforementioned platforms and others where videos are filmed horizontally, requiring users to flip their phones sideways for the best viewing experience, Instagram TV eliminates this.

The videos produced are compatible with vertical screens.

IGTV and the future of influencing

On October 21, the platform will be making four months.

While there has been a deviation from its sudden surge in downloads after its launch, the continued growth of Instagram puts IGTV in a better position.

While you can download the IGTV app as a space unto itself, you can also view the videos directly on your Instagram without the extra download.

Available in 30 languages, the app is 140.3 MB for people using iOS and 30.05 MB (Android).

With Instagram TV, influencers and content creators with a huge following (10,000 followers or more) have access to the hour-long video capability, but aside from that restriction, any Instagram user can take advantage of the app and its features.

As it has been defined by Instagram, Instagram TV is “a new app for watching long-form, vertical video from your favorite Instagram creators.”

According to reports, by 2021, mobile video will account for 78% of all mobile data traffic.

Instagram, being one of the fastest growing platforms, content creators can optimize it to post tutorials, product reviews, interviews, and experiential videos.
